The Safe Kids Collaborative is focused on the prevention of accidental or unintentional injuries among children by working collaboratively to provide education and advocacy efforts to improve safety.

Currently, the collaborative supports efforts in the prevention of poisoning, boating safety, bullying, internet safety, biking safety, and provision and correct installation of car seats for infants and toddlers. Topics may include poisonous plants and deadly look-alikes, bike and biking safety, boating and water safety.


  • Car seat checks at multiple community events
  • Public child safety messaging about poisoning, boating and water safety, Halloween, Back to School, safe holiday toys and gifts
  • Public messaging during Parenting Awareness Month (March) and Child Abuse Prevention Month (April)

The Safe Kids collaborative meets quarterly on the first Monday of February, May, August, and November at 1:00 p.m. at the City of Newaygo offices.

May - National Safe Kids Week community informational activities regarding water and summer safety

June - Kids Day in Newaygo with car seat checks, participation in Summer Magic activities to provide instruction on safety topics

July - National Baby Food Festival in Fremont with car seat checks, boating safety class

September - Halloween safety and back to school safety community informational activities

October - Halloween Hallow with instruction in fire safety

December - Safe Toys and Gifts Month community informational activities, Santa's Storybook Saturday in White Cloud (first Saturday in December)
