County Hunger Elimination Force (CHEF)

Purpose and Background

The County Hunger Elimination Force (CHEF) works to ensure that no Newaygo County child or adult goes hungry. The CHEF members coordinate and improve the food available through local food pantries, the Newaygo County Mobile Food Pantry, and other programs that ensure food security for local families requiring assistance.

TrueNorth Community Services established the Newaygo County Food Committee in April, 2002, and invited all organizations who provided food assistance to collaborate in helping to meet the growing food needs in the county to make sure no one in Newaygo County goes hungry.

Activities

  • Network for better understanding of food assistance services in each organization
  • Collaborate on Newaygo County food distribution initiatives
  • Serve as a resource for people who are in need of food resources
  • Educate people on how to cook healthy for less money
  • Distribute other current program information through food distribution locations
